Improving patient care landscape vital-Merck Foundation

Merck Foundation CEO Senator Dr Rasha Kelej says they are transforming the patient care landscape and making history together with its partners in Africa, Asia and beyond through provision of scholarships for doctors from 50 countries in 42 critical and underserved medical specialities.

Announcing the winners of the 2023 Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit (MARS) awards Senator Dr Kelej said the foundation is committed to improving people's lives through quality healthcare.

"Out of the 1700 scholarships we have provided more than 535 scholarships for clinical and practical training for Fertility and Embryology,PG Diploma and Master Degree in Sexual and Reproductive Medicine,Clinical Psychiatry, Women's Health ,Biotechnology of Human Assisted Reproduction and Embryology,Urology ,Laparoscopic Surgical skills to doctors from 39 countries across Africa and Asia" said Senator Dr Kelej.

She added that the foundation aims to empower African young researchers and women researchers through advancing their research capacity and contribute to Science ,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The winners of the MARS 2023 were Stella Irungu from Kenya ,Motshedisi Sebitioane from South Africa, Oyeyemi Ifeoluwa Nigeria, Afework Tadele Mekonnen, Ethiopia, Stephen Shadrack Meena Tanzania, Theogene Uwizeyimana Rwanda.

The MARS 2023 Awards were in partnership with the African Union Scientific Technical Research Commission, International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS),Africa Reproductive Care Society (ARCS) and Manipal University India.
