The Inaugural Global Cervical Cancer Elimination Forum which begins today in Columbia and ends on the 7th of this month aims to catalyse governments , donors , civil society and other stakeholders to commit to Cervical Cancer elimination and galvanise the global community .

In a press statement ahead of the official opening of the forum the World Heath Organisation(WHO) said participants will announce new financial ,policy and programmatic commitments to advance the Cervical Cancer elimination agenda and accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goal number 3 "Health and Well-being For All".

"Lack of access to vaccines , Cervical cancer screening and treatment in places where they are needed most has resulted in a woman dying every two minutes from an entirely preventable disease "WHO said.

The World Health Organisation highlighted that its Global Strategy for Cervical Cancer Elimination that was launched in 2020 clearly lays out a path to eliminating the disease through vaccination, screening and treatment.

"The knowledge ,tools and opportunities exist to protect and eliminate this form of cancer which is the fourth most common cancer in women globally but there is need to channel resources towards addressing the global Cervical cancer burden .

WHO estimates that worldwide annual deaths from Cervical cancer could reach to 410 000 by 2030 if the problem is not addressed.
