Over 25 000 cholera cases recorded in Zimbabwe

As of yesterday Zimbabwe has so far recorded 25 500 suspected cases of Cholera ,2 623 laboratory confirmed cases and 24 797 recoveries.

A report from the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) revealed that 71 confirmed deaths have been recorded , 473 suspected deaths and the case fatality rate is at 1.85%

"The National Recovery Rate is at 97% and cases in care are 159 and so far as of the 20th of this month cumulatively 2 099 497 people have received the Oral Cholera Vaccine" ,said the MOHCC.

The Oral Cholera Vaccine campaign launched last month by the Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Douglas Mombeshora is targeting the country's Cholera hotspots and to date suspected and confirmed cases have been reported in 61 districts in all the country's 10 provinces since the beginning of the outbreak last year.

"The outbreak has spread to more than 17 traditional cholera hotspot districts of Buhera,Chegutu,Chikomba, Chimanimani,Chipinge, Chitungwiza,Chiredzi,Harare,Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe,Shamva ,Mutare, Murehwa, Mwenezi,Seke and Wedza.

The first Cholera outbreak was recorded on the 12th of February 2023 in Chegutu town, Mashonaland West Province and the Ministry as part its strategies to combat Cholera they conducted a one day sensitive meeting in Harare with more than 120 leaders from the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, UDACIZA, Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, Islamic Community ,Dare reVadzimu and ZINATHA to deliberate on their role in the prevention and control of the disease.
